What should I write in an anniversary card for my husband?

Updated October 2026 · How we answer

Short answerAcknowledge a specific memory or quality from your time together, say what he means to you, and look forward to the future. Keep it personal and warm.

Start with a shared memory

Open with something you both remember: a trip, a funny mishap, or a small moment from your early days. 'I still laugh about the time we...' or 'Remember when we...' instantly makes it personal.

If you're stuck, think about the past year. What's one thing he did that made you proud or grateful? That can be your opening line.

Say what he means to you

This is the heart of the card. You can mention how he supports you, makes you laugh, or simply makes life better. Avoid generic praise; tie it to a real example if you can.

For example: 'You always know how to calm me down, like when you made me tea after that rough week.' That's more meaningful than 'You're the best husband ever.'

  • Happy anniversary to my favorite person.
  • I'd choose you all over again.
  • Thank you for being my partner in everything.
  • Here's to more adventures together.
  • Loving you is the best part of my life.
  • I'm so glad I get to do life with you.

Look forward

End with a hope or plan for the future. 'Can't wait for our next 10 years' or 'Looking forward to more lazy Sundays with you' gives the card a forward-looking warmth.

You can also add a small promise, like 'I promise to keep making you laugh' or 'Here's to more road trips.'

Common mistakes

  • Writing only about the past and forgetting to mention the future.
  • Using overly formal language that doesn't sound like you.
  • Forgetting to sign it with a personal nickname or inside joke.
